Dean is the Charles E. Culpeper Professor of Youth Ministries at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and director of Culture and Youth Studies. He has spent his life in youth work, training, and as professor of youth ministries in seminaries around the world. He is an adjunct professor at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Seminary (Brookline, MA) and has also been an adjunct for Fuller Theological Seminary (Pasadena, CA) and DayStar University College (Nairobi, Kenya). Dean Borgman is an Episcopal priest serving as a pastoral associate at Christ Church, Hamilton/Wenham on Boston’s North Shore. Dean is the founder and principal writer for CYS, Culture and Youth Studies (formerly Center for Youth Studies, www.centerforyouth.org). Dean received a Youth Ministry Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Youth Ministry Educators in 2006 and from Youth Specialties in 2013. He is an honorary founder/member of the International Association for the Study of Youth Ministry. Dean and his wife Gail, (LICSW) live in Rockport, MA and have four grown children and nine grandchildren.
Diana was born and raised in rural Pennsylvania. She graduated from Grove City College with degrees in English and Biblical and Religious Studies. She then spent a year in Belize working at a group home for foster children. Currently, she is attending Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary for a Masters in Spiritual Formation. Diana enjoys good literature, cooking, strong coffee, and playing the piano.
Peter was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. He received a B.A. in Political Science from McGill University in 2009, and is an aspiring watercolor painter. He enjoys reading and writing on a wide range of subjects. To see his paintings visit his website at peterbassart.wordpress.com.
Anne played a vital part in the founding and continued development of CYS (then called the Center for Youth Studies). She was the long time director of junior high ministries at Boston’s historic Park Street Church. Anne holds a Masters Of Religious Education with a youth concentration and a Masters of Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Most recently, she has retired to South Carolina, where she now volunteers as a researcher for Culture and Youth Studies.
Dan is a Youth Minister serving at Saint Andrew By-The-Sea United Methodist Church in Hilton Head Island, SC. His interest in Youth Studies and Culture began when a youth group impacted his life and he began learning leadership in the context of volunteering in the local church. Since then he worked his way from volunteer to intern to ministry assistant and then to Youth Minister while gaining a bachelor’s in Religion and Philosophy from Flagler College in Saint Augustine, FL and a Master of Divinity from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary where he began studying under Dean Borgman, the director of Culture and Youth Studies. Now working on ordination in the United Methodist Church, Dan writes for the United Methodist Advocate in South Carolina on “Foundations in Youth Ministry,” coordinates the local Youth Ministry Network of the Lowcountry, and has helped launch Saint Andrew’s multi-site family, youth and worship ministry in Bluffton, SC. His passion is to make disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world. He is married 10 years to his wonderful wife Amanda and is currently expecting their first son, Ransom.
