Project UnMask is “student-run program that addresses the issue of the media’s negative effects on teenager’s self-perceptions.” A natural part of its focus is the effect of advertising.
Through this discussion they hope to explain how advertising has changed over the last several decades. About their video they write, “This video outlines the different stages in the history of advertising and media, with particular ways in which the media has grown to become increasingly sophisticated, scientific and subtle in its methods and resources.”
You can watch the video embedded here and then proceed via the link to their website for a full outline of discussion questions and activities to be used in a group. The video is also included on their website and can be watched there as well.
